A bit of background…

Why do all log stores look the same?

Based in Stow in the Scottish Borders, a stones throw from Edinburgh, we design and manufacture timber and metal products which provide interesting solutions to mundane objects. Where skills exceed our own we work with other local suppliers and craftsmen to keep our environmental footprint as light as possible. This goes as far as trying to find designs which optimise the use of pre-used timber without compromising design or quality.

Why Norskved?

In 2011 Lars Mytting published a book called Hel Ved which in 2015 was translated into English and titled Norwegian Wood. The book was about chopping, stacking and drying wood the Scandinavian way. On page 119 was a photo of logs stacked in the design of a fish and at that, the idea was born. Why do our log stores all follow roughly the same design?

There’s nothing wrong with a wooden log store, somewhere dry and secure to keep firewood, but we questioned whether we could make stores that were more interesting, that fused art and design with function. So became Norskved, which in homage to the inspiration roughly translates as norwegian wood.
